AT&T U-verse Now Has HD Programming

In today’s world people are seeking to maximize their entertainment dollar. Increasing gas prices, a slowing economy, and higher food costs are putting the squeeze on Americans. Fortunately, one of the great buys in entertainment is your cable or satellite TV service.

If you take a moment and think about it, you can get a bundle including over 200 stations including commercial-free movie channels like Cinemax and Encore for about $95 dollars a month. That is less than you typically will drop for dinner and a movie. The latest and greatest in the pay TV market is HD, or high definition service. What should you evaluate when hooking up that new plasma TV you just bought?

Remember that your basic cable television or satellite TV service is not in HD. You have to specifically purchase a programming package that features this type of programming. So where do smart shoppers start?

Call your current provider and find out exactly what they can do as far as HD service. Satellite TV companies DISH Network and Direct TV have been leading the charge as far as providing the most high definition when you look at channel counts. Cable TV providers like Cox also have some great offerings, such as HD on-demand. Ask exactly how much upgrading to hi-def will cost, and if you need additional equipment. Comparing against satellite digital video recorders units is important.

If what they offer is not what you want, do a little comparison shopping. The newest deals include an all hi-def package from DISH Network called TurboHD. DirecTV offers HD service for only $9.99 per month. Charges per month are different with cable television companies across the country, so you will have to call your cable operator to see what the price is for high definition.

Another factor to consider is that some telephone companies now provide TV service. AT&T now provides their U-verse TV service in many areas along with telephone and high speed internet. Verizon is also expanding their network, offering their fiber service FiOS in many areas. It is advisable that you compare services side-by-side, such as U-verse vs Direct TV. These developments are a benefit to the consumer, as more competition encourages low prices in the long run.

AT&T Uverse vs Dish Network Television

If you are looking for a reliable pay television provider, Dish Network and AT&T are certainly ready to take your money. While Dish Network has been around for years, AT&T U-verse is a service still in its infancy. How do these two companies compare when doing a line by line comparison?

With Dish Network, the first requirement is that you have a clear view of the southern sky, as the installer will need to mount a satellite dish on or near your home for reception. This eliminates the possibility of even getting satellite television for some customers. AT&T U-verse also has service limitations. The telephone company network is being upgraded one area at a time so that this service can reach the homes and apartments of those served by AT&T.

Now if you actually have the option of choosing from either one of these services, here are a few things to keep in mind.

  • Dish TV service usually requires a two year service commitment, while U-verse is not currently a contract service. If you are moving soon, you may want to stay away from satellite TV.
  • While Dish Network only offers video packages, U-verse offers voice and high speed internet service as well. If you are shopping for a total communications packages, then going with the phone company may be the better choice.
  • When comparing pricing and packages, Dish Network is a little less than U-verse service. For those on a budget these days, going with satellite TV may save you $125 or more per year compared to Uverse TV packages.

Both companies offer free installation, and you can also find great deals if you are new to either company. Making a few phone calls to get exact quotes and doing a bit of internet research will insure you make the right choice for you and your family.
