Since it was launched in 2007, more than 50 million iPhones have been sold – an unprecedented number in the cell phone industry. It has broadened horizons to what cell phones are capable of and what they are used for. The iPhone 4 is claimed be the phone that will define the next generation of cell phones. So, does it live up to the hype? The iPhone features a new, 3.5-inch screen called the “Retina.” It is an IPS, LCD display that lays claim to 326 pixels per inch and a resolution of 960 x 640 pixels. In layman’s terms, this means that the display is clearer and of a much higher resolution than any other phone available. It really attracts the eye. The likelihood of hearing the annoying alert of a low batter during use is lessened with the iPhone 4’s extended battery life. The new battery life is 40% longer than the iPhone 3G and translates to seven hours of talk time; 300 hours if on standby. The processor found in the phone is the same one used in the iPad. This processor is as strong as they come, and it really places the iPhone 4 apart from any smartphone from any company. The operating system has lost the cumbersome name of the iPhone OS 4.0 and has been rechristened the iOS 4. The most noticeable difference is the capability of multitasking. In other words, you can now surf the web while listening to music or whatever else you wish to do with the phone. iBooks are also available and you can go to iTunes to create folders. Around 1500 features have been created, improved, and modified with the iPhone 4 according to Apple, making for a vastly improved phone. The iPhone 4 possesses a camera that is leaps and bounds better than those used in previous iPhones. A 5.0 megapixel camera is found on the iPhone 4 and it is capable of recording video in HD at 720p. Apple obviously was tired of receiving complaints of the inferior cameras manufactured before. Also worthy of note is the inclusion of “Face Time.” It is the ability to place video calls, a feature that no other smartphone can claim. The iPhone 4 comes with a promotional price tag of around $200 US with a two year contract. This deal will vary depending on the provider you choose, and you may even find it somewhat cheaper. It is therefore wise to do some shopping online first before you rush to the store and buy the first one you see. Only a few minutes could save you a lot of bucks.
